Opened in 2008 in Catania, the Polo Tattile Multimediale is an outstanding facility in Italy and Europe in the field of social integration. Housed in an 18th‑century building, it offers 2,000 square metres of spaces dedicated to sensory knowledge for sighted, blind and partially sighted visitors.

The facility combines activities rarely found together in a single venue:

• Tactile Museum: 3D models and sculptures to be explored by touch.
• Bar in the Dark: an experience “inverted” in which blind visitors guide sighted guests.
• Sensory Garden: a path of Sicilian scents and essences.
• Assistive Technology Showroom: the best technologies for independent living.

The Itinerant Polo

Through an accessible, specially equipped bus, the Polo Tattile Itinerante project brings the message of integration throughout Italy, offering students and visitors the chance to experience the “Bar in the Dark” wherever they are.
