Yesterday afternoon, May 20th, the Regional Councilor for Education and Vocational Training, Hon. Mimmo Turano, visited our Printing House and the Multimedia Tactile Pole.
Welcoming the representative of the regional government at the conference room of the Multimedia Tactile Pole were the president of the Printing House Vincenzo Gueli, the UICI regional president Francesca Oliveri, and the president of the Institute for the Blind of Palermo - as well as UICI national delegate - Tommaso Di Gesaro. The UICI national president Mario Barbuto was also connected via videoconference.
In addition to the Printing House staff, representatives of the Cooperatives that collaborate in the production of semi-finished school textbooks and the presidents and delegates of the UICI territorial sections of Sicily were present.
The meeting, held in a cordial atmosphere, was an opportunity for the management of the Printing House to explain to the Councilor the difficulties it faces in planning its long-term activities, as well as the need to provide – given the continuous technological evolution – for the renewal of various production facilities that are now outdated.
Regional president Oliveri also highlighted how the demand from blind and visually impaired I.Ri.Fo.R course participants is constantly growing compared to the allocations provided by the calls for vocational training.
Lawyer Di Gesaro and UICI national president Barbuto emphasized the importance of the European Charter of Rights for Persons with Disabilities, which also includes the right to education and training, a right that the Printing House and I.Ri.Fo.R support with their activities.
At the end of the meeting, the President of the Printing House, Enzo Gueli, gifted the Councilor a joint ink-Braille print copy of the Statute of the Sicilian Region.
Subsequently, the Councilor visited the operational headquarters of the Printing House, where, with deep and sincere interest, he viewed the premises, the equipment, and the aids it produces, ensuring the utmost attention of his department towards the problems and requests of people with visual impairments and of the Printing House itself.
